Heat Pump Engineer Jobs:Join the Green Revolution
MCS certified? Earn £40,000-£50,000 - the highest salary in our team. Be part of the UK's transition to sustainable heating across Hampshire, Wiltshire & Berkshire.
Why Heat Pump Engineers Are in Such High Demand

Heat pumps are the future of UK home heating - and we need engineers to install them
The UK government has committed to phasing out new gas boiler installations by 2035. That means millions of homes need to switch to heat pumps - and there aren't enough qualified engineers to install them. This isn't speculation; it's already happening. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grants of £7,500 per installation are driving demand right now.
At Rosebourne Plumbing, we're expanding our renewables division to meet this demand. We're looking for MCS certified heat pump engineers - or experienced heating engineers who want to transition into this growing sector. This is genuinely a career with long-term security and excellent earning potential.
The Numbers: The UK aims to install 600,000 heat pumps per year by 2028. Currently, we're at around 55,000. The skills gap is enormous - and that means excellent opportunities for qualified engineers.
What You'll Be Doing

Heat pump systems integrate with radiators and underfloor heating

MCS certification is your key to this growing industry
Air Source Heat Pump Installations
Complete ASHP installations from site survey through commissioning. Work with leading brands like Vaillant, Mitsubishi, Daikin, and Samsung.
Ground Source Projects
Work on larger ground source heat pump installations for rural properties. Complex, challenging projects that test your skills.
Heat Loss Calculations & System Design
Design heating systems that work. Proper heat loss calculations, system sizing, and cylinder specification for optimal performance.
Underfloor Heating Integration
Heat pumps work beautifully with UFH. Install and integrate underfloor heating systems for maximum efficiency and comfort.
Customer Education
Help homeowners understand their new system. Explain how heat pumps work differently to boilers and how to get the best from them.
Grant & Funding Work
Help customers access BUS grants (£7,500) and other funding. Manage paperwork and ensure MCS compliance for grant applications.

Make a Real Environmental Impact

Every installation reduces carbon emissions for decades to come
This isn't just marketing speak. Heat pumps genuinely make a difference:
Less carbon emissions than gas boilers
Efficiency (3kW heat per 1kW electricity)
Average heat pump lifespan
Every heat pump you install replaces a gas boiler and reduces carbon emissions for decades. You'll go home knowing your work actually matters - that's increasingly rare in any industry.
Frequently Asked Questions

Join a team that's leading Hampshire's green energy transition
What heat pump brands do you work with?
We're not tied to any single manufacturer. We work with Vaillant, Mitsubishi, Daikin, Samsung, and others depending on what's right for each property. You'll get manufacturer training to expand your brand experience.
How much of the work is heat pumps vs other heating?
Currently about 40% of our heating work is heat pumps, but this is growing rapidly. You'll also work on conventional heating systems, giving variety and ensuring steady work year-round.
Do you handle the BUS grant paperwork?
Yes, we have administrative support for grant applications. You'll need to understand MCS requirements and ensure installations are compliant, but you won't be buried in paperwork.
What if I want to eventually go self-employed?
We understand that's a common career goal in the trades. We'd rather have you for a few years and help you develop, than not have you at all. We're honest about that and will support your development either way.
Is there potential to specialize further?
Absolutely. Ground source is a growing area, as is integration with solar PV and battery storage. If you want to develop expertise in specific technologies, we'll support that.
