Ebb + Flo Filey Mono Mixer Kitchen Tap

Ebb + Flo Filey Mono Mixer

4.75/5
Reviews: 236
Source: Toolstation
Warranty: 5 years
Price: £29.98

Will's Verdict

The Ebb + Flo Filey is the tap I recommend for anyone on a strict budget. At £30, you get a brass body, ceramic disc cartridge, WRAS approval, and a 5-year warranty. I have fitted dozens of these in rental properties and starter homes and the failure rate is very low. The single lever is smooth, the chrome holds up well, and it fits all standard sinks.

Pros

  • Exceptional value at under £30
  • Brass body with 40mm ceramic disc cartridge
  • WRAS approved for all water systems

Cons

  • Zinc handle feels less premium than all-brass alternatives
  • Basic single-lever design with no pull-out spray
Best Review

Put an Ebb + Flo tap from Toolstation in — about £30 — and it is better than the original. Connected easily to flexi hoses.

Does the job but the handle feels hollow. You can tell it is a budget tap when you compare it side by side with a Bristan.

Swirl Tirso Single Lever Mono Mixer Kitchen Tap

Swirl Tirso Single Lever

4.7/5
Reviews: 359
Source: Screwfix
Warranty: 2 years
Price: £32.99

Will's Verdict

The Swirl Tirso is the best-selling budget kitchen tap at Screwfix and 359 reviews averaging 4.7 stars tell the story. Chrome-plated brass, ceramic disc valves, and a contemporary look. The only reason I would pick the Ebb + Flo over it is the warranty — Swirl gives you 2 years versus Ebb + Flo's 5.

Pros

  • Highest review count of any budget tap (359 reviews)
  • Chrome-plated brass body
  • Contemporary styling at budget price

Cons

  • Only 2-year warranty (vs 5 years from competitors)
  • Spare parts not readily available
Best Review

Fitted a Swirl kitchen tap just under 2 years ago. No issues whatsoever. Great little tap for the price.

Plumber Forum User, 2025

Worst Review

Swirl taps are basically own-brand import taps. They are okay but spare parts will not be available if you need them.

Bristan Quest Easyfit Mono Mixer Kitchen Tap

Bristan Quest Easyfit Mono

4.7/5
Reviews: 85
Source: Toolstation
Warranty: 10 years (parts)
Price: £91.48

Will's Verdict

The Quest is Bristan's workhorse kitchen tap. The Easyfit base is genuinely brilliant for installation — you drop it through the tap hole from above, twist, and lock with an Allen key. No lying on your back under the sink. The 10-year parts guarantee from a UK brand that actually honours warranty claims puts it well ahead of the budget taps.

Pros

  • Bristan Easyfit top-fix installation
  • 10-year parts guarantee from established UK brand
  • Long-life ceramic disc valves

Cons

  • Easyfit grub screw can work loose over time
  • Twin lever design (some prefer single lever)
Best Review

I like Bristan taps, they are well made. Should last a long time and look great. Easy to install and to use. Fully recommend.

Tap came with plastic backnuts. Had to replace with brass alternatives. Not what you expect at this price from Bristan.

Grohe BauEdge Single Lever Kitchen Sink Mixer

Grohe BauEdge Single Lever

4.8/5
Reviews: 10
Source: Victorian Plumbing
Warranty: 5 years
Price: £89.95

Will's Verdict

The BauEdge is Grohe's entry point and it is brilliant for under £90. You get the same Grohe technologies as their £200+ taps — StarLight chrome, LongLife ceramic cartridge, and Zero lead-free waterways. The 360-degree swivel and 332mm spout height gives proper clearance for big pans. It comes with 3/8-inch connections though, not UK standard 1/2-inch, so you may need adaptors.

Pros

  • Grohe StarLight scratch-resistant chrome finish
  • LongLife 28mm ceramic cartridge
  • Zero lead-free and nickel-free waterways

Cons

  • 3/8-inch connections — may need UK adaptors
  • Minimum 1 bar pressure required
Best Review

Stylish and elegant. Great value. Even the plumber said it is excellent quality.

Did not come with UK flexi pipe adaptors. Had to purchase these separately. Really should be included for the UK market.

Grohe Start Edge Single Lever Kitchen Mixer

Grohe Start Edge Single

4.9/5
Reviews: 19
Source: Victorian Plumbing
Warranty: 5 years
Price: £89.95

Will's Verdict

The Start Edge is Grohe's newer mid-range tap and it is an absolute cracker at £90. Where the BauEdge gives you the basics, the Start Edge adds Grohe's FastFixation Plus system — genuinely tool-free installation. The build quality is noticeably a step up, the action is silky smooth, and 19 reviewers giving it 4.9 stars tells you everything. This is the tap I would put in my own kitchen if I did not want to spend over £100.

Pros

  • Grohe FastFixation Plus tool-free installation
  • StarLight chrome with LongLife ceramic cartridge
  • 360-degree swivel with contemporary curved spout

Cons

  • QuickFix mounting can be fiddly on uneven worktops
  • 3/8-inch tails — UK adaptors may be needed
Best Review

Delighted with my choice of tap, it is solid, easy to fit, looks great. The simplified fixing method and ready fitted hose tails made it quick.

Victorian Plumbing Customer, 2025

Worst Review

QuickFix nut tightened fine during test fitting but not when installing onto the sink. Sink surface not being 100% parallel causes issues.

Bristan Cinnamon Easyfit Monobloc Sink Mixer

Bristan Cinnamon Easyfit Monobloc

4.8/5
Reviews: 13
Source: Victorian Plumbing
Warranty: 10 years (parts)
Price: £109.18

Will's Verdict

The Cinnamon is Bristan's more stylish kitchen tap. The low-profile design with a large easy-to-use lever looks genuinely premium. My only concern is the same Easyfit grub screw issue that affects all Bristan Easyfit taps after 2-3 years of heavy use. Bristan have been aware of this since 2015. Still a good tap if you check the grub screws annually.

Pros

  • Sleek low-profile modern design
  • Bristan Easyfit top-fix for rapid installation
  • Long-life ceramic disc cartridge

Cons

  • Easyfit grub screws can work loose (known issue)
  • Some reports of dribbling from aerator after turning off
Best Review

Good quality tap, looks smart, works well with the bonus of being easy to fit. Fitment was very simple, took twice as long to remove the old tap.

Worst Review

Water fountain appearing suddenly in the kitchen. The grub screws which secure the taps gradually work loose from water pressure pulses.

Franke Athena Monobloc Mixer Tap Chrome

Franke Athena Monobloc Mixer

4.3/5
Reviews: 121
Source: Screwfix
Warranty: 5 years
Price: £129.99

Will's Verdict

Franke are best known for their sinks, so buying a Franke tap to match makes sense. The swan neck design is classic and the built-in aerator gives smooth flow. However, I have seen Franke lever handles seize onto brass cartridge splines due to alloy corrosion. This is a real problem after 3-4 years in hard water areas like ours around Marlborough and Hungerford.

Pros

  • 121 Screwfix reviews — well-proven product
  • Classic swan neck design suits most kitchens
  • Built-in perlator for smooth aerated flow

Cons

  • Alloy lever handles can corrode and seize
  • Only 4.3 stars (lowest rated in this bracket)
Best Review

Excellent quality and good value for the price. Very pleased with it after installation. Matches my Franke sink perfectly.

Screwfix Customer, 2025

Worst Review

Lever heads are made of alloy and chromed over. The metal reacts with the brass spline part and seizes. Took about an hour with a rubber hammer.

Grohe Minta Single Lever Kitchen Sink Mixer

Grohe Minta Single Lever

4.5/5
Reviews: 15
Source: Multiple Sources
Warranty: 5 years
Price: £153.82

Will's Verdict

The Minta is where Grohe gets serious about design. SilkMove technology makes the lever feel like butter, and the 46mm ceramic cartridge is built to last 200,000 cycles. At £154 street price from a £248 RRP, it is genuine Grohe premium at a steep discount. Some customers report a dribble after turning off if the flow restrictor is not fitted correctly — an easy fix once you know about it.

Pros

  • Grohe SilkMove 46mm ceramic cartridge
  • StarLight chrome guaranteed durable finish
  • Made in Germany with 40+ manufacturing processes
  • Multiple spout shapes (U, C, L) available

Cons

  • Can dribble if flow restrictor not fitted correctly
  • Pull-out head alignment can be slightly fiddly
  • Requires minimum 1 bar pressure
Best Review

Great price and great quality. Easy to install and looks the business. Grohe gear is exceptional quality. The tap is smooth to turn and easy to operate.

Amazon Customer, 2025

Worst Review

Minta tap was supplied without a flow restrictor, so it dribbled after turning off. Head does not always clip back perfectly after pulling out.

Best Premium Pull-Out
Hansgrohe Focus M41 Kitchen Mixer 240 with Pull-Out Spray

Hansgrohe Focus M41 Kitchen

4.5/5
Reviews: 50
Source: Multiple UK Retailers
Warranty: 5 years + 15 years spare parts
Price: £230-262

Will's Verdict

The Hansgrohe Focus M41 is the tap I fit most often in kitchen renovations. The 240mm ComfortZone means you can fill a stockpot without gymnastics. The pull-out spray extends to 76cm with two jet modes — laminar for filling and shower for rinsing. The MagFit magnetic return is satisfying every single time. At £230-260 street price from a £465 RRP, and with 5-year warranty PLUS 15 years spare parts availability, this is a tap you buy once.

Pros

  • ComfortZone 240 — generous height for large pans
  • Pull-out spray extends to 76cm with dual jet modes
  • MagFit magnetic return for pull-out head
  • QuickClean silicone nozzles for easy limescale removal

Cons

  • Comes with 3/8-inch connections (needs UK adaptors)
  • No written installation manual included
  • EcoSmart flow rate lower than some cheaper taps
Best Review

This is a very sturdy tap and the look suits my new kitchen. The spray function is easy to operate. The laminar flow (no splashes) is amazing.

Amazon Customer, 2025

Worst Review

The tap has a 3/8 inch connection and no adapter for other sizes. Hansgrohe does not provide a written installation manual. Flow rate is noticeably less than my old tap.

Kitchen Tap FAQs

What is the best kitchen mixer tap for hard water areas?

For hard water areas like Andover (SP10/SP11), Marlborough (SN8), and Hungerford (RG17), look for taps with QuickClean silicone aerators that allow limescale to be wiped off. The Hansgrohe Focus M41 and Grohe Start Edge both feature this. Avoid taps with alloy lever handles (like some Franke models) as the alloy can corrode and seize in hard water.

How much does it cost to have a kitchen tap fitted professionally?

Professional kitchen tap installation from Rosebourne Plumbing starts at £150 + VAT. This covers removal of the old tap, fitting the new one, connecting to hot and cold supplies, testing for leaks, and checking operation. The tap itself is supplied by you or we can source it. Total cost including a mid-range tap is typically £240-£300.

Can I fit a kitchen tap myself?

A simple like-for-like swap on a modern sink with flexible hoses and working isolation valves is achievable for a confident DIYer. However, 40% of DIY kitchen tap installations result in callbacks due to leaks, cross-threaded connections, or damaged fittings. If your isolation valves do not work, your pipes are copper (not flexi), or you are unsure about anything, call a professional.

What is the difference between 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch connections?

UK plumbing uses 1/2-inch (15mm) connections as standard. Many European taps (particularly Grohe and Hansgrohe) come with 3/8-inch connections. You will need a simple adaptor (about £3-5 per pair) to connect them to UK pipework. A professional plumber will have these in their van, but it is worth knowing if you are fitting it yourself.

How long should a kitchen tap last?

A quality kitchen tap should last 10-15 years with normal use. Budget taps (under £50) typically last 3-5 years. Mid-range taps from brands like Bristan and Grohe commonly last 8-12 years. Premium taps from Hansgrohe with proper maintenance can last 15-20 years. Hard water areas like ours reduce lifespan by 20-30%, making the QuickClean feature on Hansgrohe and Grohe taps particularly valuable.

Ready to Upgrade Your Kitchen Tap?

Professional kitchen tap installation from £150 + VAT. We supply and fit all major brands across Andover (SP10/SP11), Marlborough (SN8), and Hungerford (RG17).
